Following are some of the primary regional and international trade policy sites that offer online updates of trade information:

Caribbean Regional Negotiating Machinery (CRNM)

The Caribbean Regional Negotiating Machinery (CRNM) was created by the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Governments to develop, coordinate and execute an overall negotiating strategy for various external trade-related negotiations in the Region.

A major task of the CRNM is to bring a systematic and focused approach to new pressing international issues. The ultimate goal is to ensure that the Caribbean's development is not impeded by changes in global trade arrangements and that maximum benefit can be secured.

An RNM Update is published on a periodic basis to provide information about trade negotiations and other activities of the organization.  Interested subscribers should email nbardouille@crnm.org.

Caribbean Export Development Agency (Caribbean Export)

The Caribbean Export Development Agency is a regional organization of the Forum of Caribbean States (CARIFORUM), dedicated to helping Caribbean enterprises increase their international competitiveness and export-earning capabilities.

Tradewatch is the Agency’s online newsletter which provides information on trade activities, business and investment opportunities etc.  For subscription, send email to npaul@carib-export.com.

Association of Caribbean States (ACS)

The Association of Caribbean States is a grouping of 25 countries that cooperate in matters of integration, cultural, economic, social, scientific and technological advancement as well as protection of the environment.

The ACS Press Review is a service of theAssociation of Caribbean States that reviews the current affairs of the ACS Region.  To subscribe to this press review, send a blank email to: pressreview@acs-aec.org with "Subscribe" in the subject field.

BRIDGES Weekly Trade News Digest

The International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD) was established to contribute to a better understanding of development and environment issues in international trade.

An independent non-profit and non-governmental organization, ICTSD engages a network of governmental, non-governmental and inter-governmental partners in ongoing dialogue about trade and sustainable development. 

BRIDGES Weekly Trade News Digest© is published by ICTSD to provide weekly news on trade, sustainable development and the WTO.

World Trade Organization (WTO)

The World Trade Organization (WTO) is the only global international organization that deals with the rules of trade between nations. At its heart are the WTO agreements, negotiated and signed by over 147 of the world’s trading nations. The goal is to help producers of goods and services, exporters, and importers conduct their business.

European Union (EU)

The European Union (EU) is a family of democratic European countries, committed to working together for peace and prosperity.  Its Member States have set up common institutions to which they delegate some of their sovereignty so that decisions on specific matters of joint interest can be made democratically at European level.  A major area of cooperation sees the European Union negotiating as one body using a common negotiating position in multilateral, regional and bilateral negotiations.

Inside Trade

Inside Trade is a commercial website that provides trade information on all of the negotiating arenas – multilateral, regional and bilateral.  Categories of information include Inside United States Trade, Around the World, WTO, the Americas etc.  Persons may access the pay-per-view service here.

The following websites provide trade information:

Caribbean Community and Common Market (CARICOM)

The Caribbean Community and Common Market (CARICOM) was established to promote functional cooperation in relation to human and social development, to integrate the economies of Member States, to coordinate foreign policy; external trade negotiations; air transport; maritime infrastructure policy and development; and telecommunications policy.

Membership encompasses Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Belize, The Bahamas, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Surinam and Trinidad and Tobago. The Bahamas is not a member of the Common Market.

The CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) is currently in the implementation stage. A Caribbean Court of Justice has also been approved to interpret and settle disputes arising out of the CSME.

Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS)

The Organization of Eastern Caribbean States, a grouping comprising Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia and St Vincent and the Grenadines, promotes co-operation among the Member States and seeks to defend their sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence. The organization assists Member States in realizing their obligations and responsibilities to the international community. The OECS also seeks to promote economic integration among the member states.

Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA)

The Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) is a proposed free trade area that will comprise 34 democracies of the Western Hemisphere. Members are negotiating nine areas with a view to completion of the Agreement by 2005. These include Market Access, Agriculture, Government Procurement, Investment, Competition Policy, Intellectual Property Rights, Services, Dispute Settlement and Subsidies, Antidumping and Countervailing Duties. Three Consultative groups address Smaller Economies, E-commerce, and Civil Society.

Africa Caribbean and Pacific States (ACP)

The ACP is comprised of 78 countries: 48 African, 15 Caribbean and 15 Pacific states.

CARICOM, as part of the Africa Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) grouping is currently negotiating Economic Partnership Agreements (EPAs) with the European Union pursuant to the Cotonou Partnership Agreement which succeeded a series of Lome Agreements based on economic and social development:

The Briefing Room

The Briefing Room is a trade communication program. A private sector initiative, the Briefing Room will help you to see how you are or may be affected by the various trade agreements entered into by the government. The programme also seeks to keep you informed of the progress of these agreements as well as other trade issues of importance to Jamaica. The objective of The Briefing Room program is to increase Jamaica's capacity to positively affect global trade arrangements by improving the business community's understanding of the implications of trade agreements, arrangements and issues.

The Briefing Room is funded by four private sector organizations with co-financing from the United States Agency for International Development, (USAID), through the New Economy Project (NEP).

USAID Trade Enhancement for the Services Sector (TESS) Project

TESS Project supports service sector liberalization and advancement. The TESS website serves as a clearinghouse for information on service sector trade. It also provides instructions and tools to USAID missions wishing to access TESS products and services.
