Project: Support for 19 Caribbean businesses in the 2003 Summer International Fancy Food and Confection Show
Agency: The Caribbean Export Development Agency
Where: New York
When: June 2003

Overview

This was the 10th year that Caribbean Export coordinated a Caribbean Pavilion at the New York Summer International Fancy Food and Confection Show. Participation in this show has assisted the most successful speciality food exporters in the Caribbean to establish a foothold in the market where their sales have been extensive. These companies continue to support the need for a Caribbean Pavilion as they confirm that exhibiting as a regional group allows maximum exposure and benefit from the Show.

Benefits of the Caribbean Pavilion

The Caribbean Pavilion gives exhibitors the prominence to exhibit and attract buyers that they cannot achieve on their own. Experience has shown that buyers often seek out the Caribbean Pavilion to see what is new, to track companies and to meet their existing suppliers. This Pavilion is also a "must see" for the trade press, giving the exhibitors additional publicity in the media and specialty publications.

Largest display of specialty foods

The show is best known for presenting the largest display of specialty foods around the world. This year the show had 1,995 exhibiting companies, which represented 45 countries and was attended by 22,673 visitors and buyers from 65 countries. The Caribbean pavilion housed 19 companies from:

  • Barbados
  • Suriname
  • Jamaica
  • Haiti
  • Trinidad & Tobago

Assortment of Caribbean products on show

The Caribbean pavilion exhibited coffees, rums, frozen fruits, fruit based sauces, spices, condiments, jams, jellies, seasonings, tropical juices, rum cakes, rum fruit cakes and pre-prepared meals - all authentic products of the Caribbean. Several companies also launched new products at the show.
