Overview

C-TRADECOM supported participation of OECS representatives to attend this customs conference, held in Port of Spain, Trinidad from October 28-30, 2003.

Participants attended briefings on:

  • Customs Modernization: The challenge of Institutional Development Automation/Funding/Staffing/Integrity
  • CARICOM Single Market and Economy – Customs Union
  • Draft harmonized legislation for the Caribbean Community: Trade Modernization Legislation and Cargo Management Re-engineering
  • Port Security in the Caribbean Basin
  • Trade Point: A portal connecting customs brokers; importers/exporters; customs; hauliers, wharf companies and shipping agents
  • Regional Modernization Initiatives Online Workshop Demonstration: Electronic Entry Processing, Valuation Support, Intelligence, Risk Management
  • Compliance responsibility: Exporter/importer/broker
  • New Challenges: Trade, security, and customs facilitation
  • Cargo Security – Anti-terrorism imperatives and customs/trade perspectives

This conference aimed to significantly impact the way that trade and business procedures are expedited in the CARICOM region in light of the FTAA and the CARICOM Single Market and Economy.
