Project: Regional Training Program on Standardization

Agency: The Caribbean Regional Organization on Standards and Quality (CROSQ) and the Trinidad and Tobago Bureau of Standards (TTBS)

Overview:

This initiative was designed to provide staff of Standards Bureaus in OECS countries, Belize, Haiti and Suriname with the training needed for them to function effectively in their role as standards development officers. This is a prerequisite for regional standards bureaus to fulfill their obligations under the WTO Technical Barriers to Trade agreement.

Outcome:

A three-week workshop on all aspects of working in a Bureau of Standards was delivered to 17 standards officers from the OECS and Haiti as well as
technical officer of the Caribbean Regional Organisation for Standards and Quality (CROSQ).

Technical expertise was provided for the delivery of training modules on Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP), Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) requirements and Metrology.

The participants were impressed by the quality of training delivered and feel better prepared to deal with their responsibilities on returning home.
